Define the slurry duty point
Record required flow, total dynamic head, static lift, discharge route, operating cycle and whether solids arrive continuously or in batches. Read a pump curve only against this duty point; motor power alone is not a selection basis.
Measure particle size, concentration and density
State the largest particle, size distribution, total solids concentration and slurry density or specific gravity. Include the measurement method and any change during the cycle; water-only data does not describe concentrated slurry.
Describe abrasion and settling
Identify mineral type, hardness or another available abrasion indicator, expected settling, deposit depth and any tendency to compact. Record temperature and pH when relevant to wetted materials; do not infer wear rates from a duty label.
Plan intake and agitation
Explain how material reaches the pump, whether settled solids can bury the intake, and whether an agitator, mixer or controlled disturbance is available. Confirm that the hydraulic and intake arrangement matches the stated solids condition.
Specify materials and wear parts
Ask for the wetted-material schedule for body, impeller, agitator, inlet plate, strainer, shaft, seals and fasteners, plus the replaceable wear-part list. Verify high-chrome or other material names for the exact model in the written offer.
Confirm immersion, cooling and installation
Record minimum and maximum immersion, low-level operation, cooling method, discharge connection, hose or pipe support, guide or suspension arrangement, lifting points and cable route. Follow the exact manual for allowable conditions.
Review electrical supply and controls
Provide site voltage, phase, frequency, starting method or VFD, cable length, protection, level controls, grounding and panel requirements. A 50 Hz configuration or curve is not a performance claim at another frequency.
Request written model-level confirmation
Send duty point, solids data, abrasion and settling notes, intake method, materials, immersion, installation and electrical details with the proposed model or series. Before purchase specification, request written confirmation of exact model, configuration, curve basis, materials, wear parts, protection and documentation.
